Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Quad Research Institute?

The Quad Research Institute is a specialized virtual program for intellectual, curious students seeking one-on-one support as they complete an original research project.

What is the Quad Research Institute structure?

You’ll first meet with your mentor to align on a topic, explore it, identify a research question, and write your research paper with the support of your research mentor and writing coach. Afterward, you will finalize edits and submit your paper for final evaluation.

Do I need to have a topic or exact project in mind before the first consultation?

No, but having an idea of what research field you want to investigate further helps us match you with the best-fit research mentor.

What topics can I explore through the Quad Research Institute?

We have an extensive list of topics you can choose to pursue as part of your research program. If you don’t see your selected topic above in our offerings, please chat with us to see if we can help; our list is always expanding!

Do you only work with students interested in STEM research?

Not at all! We also work with students interested in humanities and social sciences topics.

What Is QRI’s program duration?

The duration of your QRI program depends on which you select. Programs can run from 12 weeks to 12 months.

Is QRI a summer program?

No, but there is a summer session. QRI programs run at least four times annually with spring, summer, fall, and winter sessions.

Will my QRI research be published?

QRI doesn’t promise publication but will provide the necessary resources for students to explore if they're motivated to share their work with undergraduate and high school research journals or conferences.

Additionally, the Premium Research and Publication Program is designed specifically for students interested in writing research papers and who want support through the publication process.

Will my QRI mentor provide a college letter of recommendation?

At the conclusion of your program, your mentor will grade your research paper and write an evaluation. It’s appropriate to ask your mentor for a college letter of recommendation if you feel they’ve gained enough perspective on their personality, abilities, and academic promise.

Please note that mentors are not required to write you a recommendation; your mentor will review your performance throughout the program before making a final decision on becoming a recommender.

What if I want to research a topic outside QRI’s offerings?

QRI’s mentors are experts in their respective fields across every major discipline you can think of. The topics presented are a sample of our offerings!

How does QRI’s one-on-one sessions work?

After your initial call, you’ll be connected with a research mentor over email or another mutually agreed-upon platform. Together, you will collaborate to find a time that works for a weekly session over the next eight weeks. Your research mentor will send you a personal Zoom link you can use to meet.
