Anush was born in Calcutta, India, and moved to Edison, New Jersey, for high school. He then attended Boston University, majoring in Biology and Philosophy. His interest in research began during a summer internship at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he studied daily changes in mitochondrial numbers. Upon returning to Boston, he began working on the biochemistry of circadian rhythms at Harvard Medical School, studying the native, endogenous structure and function of the transcription factor responsible for regulating all mammalian cellular circadian rhythms. He also spent a summer at the EPFL in Switzerland investigating robotics and its application in the diagnosis and treatment of psychosis.

As an MD-PhD student at Yale, he wants to learn how to rigorously think about science and become the best physician he can be. Outside of school, Anush loves to read philosophy/ethics, eat good food, pursue his love for stand-up comedy, and listen to classic rock.

Bhargav Gopal is an economist at Queen's University, Smith School of Business doing research at the intersection of labor, finance, law, and economics. He recently received a PhD from Columbia University. 

Prior to Columbia, he received a B.A. in Economics from UC Berkeley and was a Research Fellow at Stanford Law School.

Brandon Woodard is a PhD student at Brown University and graduate researcher for the Brown Visual Computing group under the advisement of Dr. Jeff Huang.

Prior to attending Brown, he received his B.S. in Computer Science at CSUMB and has interned for the MIT Lincoln Laboratory, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and Intel. He is interested in the intersection of scientific visualization, graphics, and human-computer interaction. His current research is focused on increasing the utility of LiDAR data captured by the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) instrument aboard the International Space Station with inferential data modeling and visualization techniques.

Caitlin Nichols received her BS in molecular biology with a minor in editing from Brigham Young University. While at BYU, she worked in the lab of Laura Bridgewater, PhD, where she studied the function of a novel nuclear variant of BMP2 (nBMP2) in skeletal muscle, as well as the role of the unfolded protein response (UPR) in mouse models of osteoarthritis. She also worked in the lab of Steven Graves, PhD, studying the ability of a novel proteomic approach to identify differences between complex biological tissues, including normal and preeclamptic human placenta.

Caitlin’s work in the Beroukhim Lab focused on identifying and validating a novel class of cancer vulnerabilities caused by loss of heterozygosity (LOH) of cell-essential genes. She also studied the role of TERC amplification in cellular immortalization/transformation. She received numerous awards for scientific communication in presenting her project, and after completing her PhD she joined 23&Me.

Chris is a sixth-year PhD candidate in Political Science focusing on international relations. He received his BA in Political Science with a Concentration in Russian Language and Culture from Columbia University and his AM in Political Science from Brown University.

Cody’s specializations include computational cognitive science and social psychology. He’s interested in what AI and computational models can teach us about the human mind, and what our understanding of the human can teach us about how to build and deploy AI. 

He currently works as an Applied Behavioural Scientist at Social Machines and is building a research program around using LLMs to model human meaning and social interaction in ways that couldn't be done using previous generations of modeling. 

Cody is interested in how we understand the minds of other people. The standard way of talking about this problem is the idea of the "intuitive psychologist;” that when normal people attempt to make sense of the behavior of others, they are doing an informal version of what we professional psychologists do. 

While Cody believes much interesting work has been done in this vein, he thinks it is insufficient for describing how people understand others from a social background that's dramatically different than their own. A more apt metaphor for this situation might be the "intuitive anthropologist." By using the basic methods and assumptions of anthropological fieldwork as a conceptual starting point, he studies how we understand the minds of others: what we do well, what we do poorly, and how we can improve.

Keana Richards is a doctoral researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, combining psychology and statistics to understand how social identity and context affect decisions that alter a person’s health and economic outcomes. She is passionate about using data to tell a compelling story for a range of cross-functional audiences and, in doing so, providing a clear path for decision-making. Over the course of 7+ years leading research programs, she honed her ability to translate complex research problems into evidence-based, actionable results.

Kerry Betz is a Scientist in Discovery Process Research at Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Before graduate school, Kerry spent five years working in the lab of Prof. Robert H. Grubbs at Caltech as an undergraduate researcher then research technician. 

She then earned her PhD in Organic Chemistry from Stanford University, where her thesis work with Prof. Justin Du Bois focused on the design and development of new ligands and a new catalytic platform for enabling C-H functionalization.

Madeline earned a Master’s in Geography from UC Davis before pursuing her doctorate at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. At UC Davis, Madeline was a graduate student researcher and co-author on two publications for the MacArthur Foundation.

Madeline is interested in how craft markets emerge and the implications of social inequality. Her focus is on the craft chocolate movement to understand the dynamics of valuation from production to consumption. She plans to study these topics using experimental design and comparative work, with a particular focus on entrepreneurs in developing economics.

MG is a doctoral student at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she is also the Fellowships Chair and music tutor. MG graduated from Harvard College with a BA in English Literature and returned to Harvard to obtain her Ed.M. in Language and Literacy after working for a health and wellness startup in downtown Boston. 

MG’s current doctoral research lies at the intersection of psychology and literature; specifically, she’s interested in the process of children's narrative absorption (being “lost” in a book), as well as how literature contributes to students' moral development and identity formation.

Orelia Jonathan is a sixth-year doctoral candidate concentrating on Culture, Institutions, and Society at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is also currently a National Academy of Education Spencer Dissertation Fellow. Her research interests focus on whether education contributes to or alleviates conflict in sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on history education and teachers in South Sudan.

Her dissertation project explores how teachers navigate teaching history in conflict settings with a specific focus on teacher’s lived experiences and how they draw on their personal experiences of the conflict to enact the history curriculum in their classrooms. In this work, she examines whether the new South Sudanese history curriculum and the teaching of this curriculum contributes to peacebuilding in South Sudan. To do this work, she is conducting a comparative case study across schools in South Sudan. 

For her research on teachers and history education in South Sudan, she has funding from the International Peace Research Association Foundation, the Harvard Center for African Studies, the Harvard Graduate School of Education Programs Office and the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.

Praise Owoyemi is a Doctoral Student (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology at the University of California, Los Angeles. She currently works as a Clinical Research Assistant at the McLean Hospital. Recently, she received an American Psychosomatic Society (APS) Diversity Scholar Travel Award to attend the 2023 APS annual meeting.

Samuel Leiter is a PhD Candidate specializing in Security Studies and International Relations. He is primarily interested in defense industrial base politics, Japan, and wargaming. He graduated with general and departmental honors from the University of Chicago with a BA in Political Science and previously worked at the Civic Consulting Alliance.

Sanah Bhimani, a Yale Physics graduate student and a member of Yale’s Wright Lab, has been awarded the Yale Physics Graduate Diversity Fellowship for 2022 to work with assistant professor Laura Newburgh on a departmental climate survey. She works with Prof. Laura Newburgh on the Simons Observatory (SO), a next-generation experiment that uses the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), relic radiation from the Big Bang, to measure the initial conditions and evolution of our universe.

Sevag Derghazarian is from Montreal, Canada, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal. He completed his PhD at Cornell University, under the mentorship of Dr. David L. Hysell, in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a focus on Upper Atmospheric Physics. 

The main topic of his doctoral studies was high-altitude irregularities of the equatorial topside ionosphere. These irregularities consist of disturbances in the highest levels of the ionosphere (a level of the atmosphere characterized by a high concentration of ions) around the Earth’s magnetic equator.

Steven Shuken is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Gygi Laboratory in the Department of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School. He got his PhD in Chemistry working in the Wyss-Coray Laboratory in the Department of Neurology and Neurological Sciences at Stanford School of Medicine and the Burns Laboratory in Stanford’s Department of Chemistry.

He is an expert in mass spectrometry-based proteomics using both tandem mass tags (TMT) and data-independent acquisition (DIA). He developed new proteomic technologies and applied them to studies in brain aging and Alzheimer's disease. He has a background in synthetic organic chemistry and has used synthetic probes to study protein structure, reactivity, and function.
